Duration of training: 3,5 years
Training locations: Company and vocational school
What is this job about?
Mechatronics technicians (m/f) build complex mechatronic systems, e.g. robots for industrial production from mechanical, electrical and electronic components.
They fabricate the individual components and install them in systems and units.
They put the finished systems into operation, program them or install the corresponding software.
Mechatronics technicians (m/f) stick to circuit diagrams and design drawings and carefully check the systems before being delivered to the customers. Moreover, they maintain and repair mechatronic systems.
Where do you work?
Mechatronic technicians (m/f) mainly work in the following fields:
- in companies for machinery and plant manufacture
- in the automotive, aviation and aerospace industry
- for manufacturers of industrial process control equipment or electronic equipment and components
- for companies in charge of information and communication technology or medical technology
They work in workshops or factories and also in production facilities for assembly and maintenance activities.
What is important?
Above all accuracy plays an important role in this profession, for example, when reading and implementing circuit diagrams and design drawings. The willingness to learn is necessary to remain up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of electronics and information processing. Flexibility is important to adapt to changing working locations and conditions during mounting assignments.
Knowledge in mathematics is essential as measured values, for example, have to be collected, understood and evaluated. IT knowledge is also necessary for the handling of hardware and software components as well as for configuration tasks. For the installation of mechatronic systems, knowledge in handicraft and technique are of advantage.
Which graduation is expected?
There is no specific school education prescribed – an intermediate level of education would be of advantage.
